A Transcriptionist's Worst Nightmare

Tips for Transcribers

From Freelancer to Small Business Owner

Hello, Reader!

Something very unfortunate happened to one of our colleagues last month. A legal transcriptionist with her own company and over 10 years of experience responded to an urgent request for help that was posted on the Galaxy Transcription Job Board. She transcribed 6.5 hours of audio in two days and the person she did the work for has refused to pay her.

Late and non-paying clients are way too common in our industry. It's difficult enough for us to weed out the scams, but it's heartbreaking (and sometimes financially devastating) to find a client you trust only to learn the hard way that you were wrong.

In my newest article, 7 Steps You Can Take When Clients Don't Pay, I explore some of the reasons behind payment delinquencies and offer tips on ways to prevent late payments and unpaid invoices. I've also included a list of steps you can take in the worst-case scenario, when clients don't pay at all.

Next month, I'll be writing about style guides: what are they, why you need one, and how to create your own. In the meantime, let me know how I can help you grow in your transcription career. I want to provide information, tools, and resources that you find valuable. If there's a topic you'd like to learn more about, reply to this email or connect with me on Facebook or LinkedIn.

All the best,
